Jeff spent the last ten years in roles of increasing responsibility for a leading dedicated motor carrier and logistics provider, most recently as Chief Legal Officer.
Jeff’s legal services reflect his deep experience in the industry across numerous facets of a transportation company’s day-to-day operations. His leadership in claims, litigation management, worker’s compensation, safety, risk management, human resources, insurance procurement, contract negotiation and transactional matters provide the foundation for what Jeff believes is “a unique perspective and skill set allowing me to view the business as a whole, analyzing and advising where improvements can be implemented through a risk management lens.” To that end, Jeff is passionate about the concept that a transportation company’s first line of defense is prevention, and advising his clients on proactive risk management measures is one of the most rewarding aspects of his job.
A litigator at heart, Jeff is a seasoned veteran in the courtroom and relishes the opportunity to vigorously defend his clients and the transportation industry as a whole in the courtroom. Whether it is an individual case or managing a client’s entire portfolio of litigation, Jeff has staked a reputation for working collaboratively with his clients and consistently achieving favorable outcomes. Jeff has a wealth of experience litigating matters involving death and catastrophic injuries, commercial disputes, employee misclassification issues, class actions, and various matters involving the enforcement of federal statutes.
Outside the litigation context, Jeff routinely advises his clients on every aspect of the contract cycle, from identifying potential risks at the outset, to drafting, negotiating, and finalizing contracts. In addition to working on traditional shipper-carrier and carrier-broker agreements, Jeff has vast experience with independent contractor and owner operator agreements, vendor agreements, real estate leases, SAAS agreements, and employment contracts.
Jeff has also been at the forefront of many buyer- and seller-side transactions, leading due diligence efforts and working alongside the executive team to analyze potential risks. Playing an instrumental role in drafting, negotiating, and executing the sales agreements, Jeff subsequently advised company executives on the successful transition of litigation and claims management as well as alignment of safety and risk management policies following each transaction.
Jeff began his legal career with a prominent defense firm in Cleveland, devoting a substantial part of his practice to the defense of trucking and logistics companies. Licensed to practice in Ohio, Jeff and his three children live in the Cleveland area.
